Timeline of Mark Twain in Chronological Order

•  1835 Mark Twain ( Samuel Langhorne Clemens ) borne on 30 November in Florida , the state of Missouri to father - John Marshall Clemens and mother - Jane Lampton Clemens.

•  1839 Clemens family moves to Hannibal , the state of Missouri .

•  1847 His father dies.

•  1851 Begins work as a journeyman printer for his brother Orion Clemens with the Hannibal Journal. Publishes first sketches.

•  1853 Sam Clemens leaves Hannibal and works as a printer in New York City , Philadelphia , St. Louis , and Cincinnati .

•  1857 Returns to Missouri and works as a cub pilot on Mississippi River steamboats.

•  1859 Receives steamboat pilot license.

•  1861 Joins his brother Orion and travels around Nevada . Works as prospector at silver mines in Virginia City , Nevada .

•  1863 Works as reporter at Virginia City newspaper, the Territorial Enterprise. Adopts pen name "Mark Twain".

•  1864 Leaves Nevada, prospects in Calaveras County , California . Works as a journalist for San Francisco newspapers and magazines.

•  1866-1868 Visits Hawaii as a reporter for Sacramento Union and Alta California . Travels as correspondent to Europe and the Holy Land on the Quaker City . Meets Olivia Langdon.

•  1869 Becomes engaged to Olivia Langdon. Publishes "Innocent Abroad".

•  1870 Marries Olivia Langdon.

•  1876 Publishes "Tom Sawyer".

•  1883 Publishes " Life on the Mississippi ".

•  1884 Publishes "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn".

•  1889 Completes and Publishes "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court".

•  1891-1894 Leaves in Europe . Travels in Europe and United States .

•  1895 Starts world lecture tour to Canada , India , Australia , New Zealand and other countries to resolve financial difficulties.

•  1897 Publishes "Following the Equator", based on the round-the-world tour.

•  1907 Awarded honorary Doctor of Letters by Oxford University

•  1910 Dies on April 21 at Stormfield.
